Chapter 1 First Battle

Shin-san and Hinako-san have been tied together by red strings of pomegranate and jasmine for 400 years.

Will it be possible to revive Kaji Castle?

5591 is my nickname in the human world. It usually doesn't have a turn, but when it comes to competitions in various worlds, it has become a treasured sword of the family.

For a long time, I was entrusted with the role of being the face of my master. It's been half a century now, but on this day, he can finally become an alter ego of his life and fly to the afterlife with the scent of pomegranate and jasmine. A sense of openness and gratitude springs up. Anyway, Shin-san stuck to her love with Hinako-san, who was precious to him for the rest of his life.

For the past 400 years, I may have been one of the sources that has protected Shin-san and Hinako-san's red thread. Someone branded me when I was born. It was given to the master by a certain woman and has been cherished throughout her life. For Shin-san, the 5591 paper box will live forever as a memento of a certain person. During the Warring States period, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa, I saw the world of humans and became a witness of the times.

No matter how much Internet culture rampages around the world, it cannot stir it into the corners of people's hearts. Lithographically printed business cards are now commonplace. My appearance is gradually disappearing.

Like Shin-san, 5591 will repay Hinako for the revival of letterpress culture and the construction of a new world of letterpress. Through Mr. Shin's way of life, I came to understand, little by little, why hand-made uneven business cards shake people's hearts.

I vaguely feel that the 55mm and 91mm size business cards have some kind of special power of transmission. In reality, my body smelled of lead all the time, but it was more beautiful than that. There seemed to be something appealing about it. Hinako's presence was Shin-san's very existence.

The rise of offset printing technology in photoengraving by DTP is a major sin that has driven traditional Japanese letterpress printing culture into an endangered species. Above all, I believe that the arrival of personal computers from the United States undermined Japan's printing culture. For a period of time, one of Japan's major phototypesetting machine manufacturers was booming in business until the 1990s.

In retrospect, I also had the responsibility of being the face of the second Shin-san and witnessing his love for Hinako-san, who was his fiancée when he was a teenager. Hinako-san, who gave birth to me, 5591, was entrusted with the mission of conveying her intentions and protecting that person, so she also had the responsibility of supporting her until the very end.

Even though I went through many twists and turns, I always felt a sense of unity with Mr. Shin. The reason I was able to accompany him through many long detours and manage to survive his life's repeated crises was because of Hinako's memory of 5591. She was my biological parent, so she was destined to be a bridge of solid love between us.

Shin-san and Hinako-san were the same age, and when they were in their teens, they vowed to get married, and before they gave their congratulatory words. At Hinako's parents' house, her parents had already passed away, and there weren't enough wedding accessories left. One day, Shin received a small paper box from Hinako as a proof of her engagement. That five-five-nine-one is my true identity. Financially, Hinako-san didn't have anything to give to Shin-san, but all she could do was hand her a hand-made sachet. I was in a small paper box inside the bag.

"Shingo-san, I'm sorry. I don't have anything I can give you. If I had to give you this, it would be this one. Right now, my brother is having a hard time. For generations, my family has had no connection with the world of stubbornness, so you." I may not have the right to be with you, but I will always follow you from now on.I'm sure this will be of use to you in the future if something happens.I will be a good companion in the long life's battles. There's a paper box inside the fragrance bag, but don't open it until you're done with your life.It probably won't be easy to open, but I'm sure it will be on your side.My father lived long ago. In life, if you're a man, be thorough in your competition.Hey, I remembered that he told me, "It's okay to lose, but it's okay if you follow your own will.Life is a serious competition.Shin-san, this scent." Think of it as me and use it with care... No matter what happens to me in the future..."

Since then, I have become a part of Mr. Shin. A special sachet smelled like a combination of pomegranate and jasmine. It was firmly ingrained in the sturdy paper box of 5591. The blissful feeling of the fragrance affected the surroundings. And that smell was Shin-san's life-defense.

The celebration was supposed to be a very simple, quiet feast for relatives only. However, an unexpected disaster struck.

Hinako got into a car accident on her way to a wedding ceremony in a bridal gown borrowed from her relatives. She was unconscious for several days, and despite her life-saving measures, Hinako passed away.

Shin had registered her marriage at the city hall before her Hinako died. The next day she went to sleep forever. Ms. Singh registered with lightning speed before her death was registered. No matter what, Shin-san wanted her to be with Hinako-san.

Shin-san realized that even if she hadn't had a car accident, Hinako-san had been suffering from leukemia for a long time, so she probably knew that she was dying. Her newlywed life will last only one day.

Hinako's older brother had become more stubborn at the time, but his uncle's influence led her to follow the path of chivalry in her teens. She has helped Hinako in her family business since she was in elementary school as a letterpress compositor. Nobuo, who has washed his feet from the world of chivalry, has just started to get on track, steadily continuing with Hinako at the Kagetora letterpress printing office that his parents left him. Shin-san and Nobuo fell into a frenzy for a while.

Hinako's parents' house was on the side of Ninkyodo, but they ran a letterpress printing shop for generations. Her management was strict, and her family finances were difficult to live on. Her older brother Nobuo was like a relative to Shin-san, and Hinako was her younger sister. Going on to each other's schools is a dream come true.

Nobuo made up his mind and qualified for the Taiken, and passed Niigata University in his forties. He then passed the bar exam. While running a letterpress printing office, he also worked hard as a lawyer.

When Hinako was still a junior high school student, her classmates took a group photo, but one day, without permission, someone entered an Echigo beauty pageant under the name of her girlfriend, Hinako. When the organizers saw the photo, they were so shocked that she froze and her body stiffened.

Anyway, she was a peerless beauty who was the envy of the beautiful women on the street. Of course she won the contest, but she was forced to use her prize money to finance her family. Even if she went to the national tournament, she had a great chance of representing Japan, but she, who is good at handicrafts, gave up on going to high school because of leukemia and ended up helping her brother's family business.

Shin-san is the second son of a farmer who has a part-time job. Hinako and Shin were in love with each other. Her Hinako-san's older brother also trusted Shin-san as her fiancée.

The family of Shingo Asakura and Nobuo Nakagawa has been in business for over 400 years. There was a deep connection between each other in terms of being a fallen warrior and a poor old family.

Going back to the Sengoku period, after the death of Kenshin Uesugi, Kagekatsu and Kagetora were competing for succession, but Kagekatsu's surprise attack resulted in Kagetora being defeated and killed in the Otate War. The older sister of the late Prince Kenshin was married to Kaji Castle in Echigo Shimoetsu. The lord of Kaji Castle supported Kagetora until the end, but in the final battle of the Otate War, he was defeated by Kagekatsu and Kanenao Naoe's army, backed by Hideyoshi. Mr. Nakagawa and Mr. Asakura, who were unknown ashigaru in Kaji Castle, became fleeing warriors. For the last 400 years, his family background has not been revealed to the public in his will.

There was also a fateful connection between Shin-san, Nobuo, and Hinako-san. The two families are truly tied together by a bond that is stronger than that of relatives for 400 years. Together with Nobuo, Shin had a dream to restore Kaji Castle and the printing press.

In each other's homes, it was forbidden to talk about clan backgrounds for generations. Both families share an unconscious tension that the descendants of the Sengoku era hunters may still be aiming for their lives.
